Event names that keep monetisation funnels honest

Checkout success firing on page view is more common than teams admit. A naming checklist for tip, gift, and subscription paths.

Monetisation funnel reviews fail most often at the dictionary, not at the strategy offsite. Teams argue about conversion while subscribe_success still fires when the paywall renders.

Minimum verbs

For each revenue moment — tip, gift, subscription start, subscription renew — keep four verbs distinct:

  • View — surface shown
  • Intent — user starts the payment sheet
  • Submit — user confirms
  • Confirmed — payment provider or ledger acknowledges

If your stack collapses submit and confirmed, say so in the glossary. Do not present the collapsed event as confirmed revenue in a leadership chart.

Creator payouts are not audience spend

Payout-sent events belong on a different map from tip-received. Mixing them produces cheerful nonsense about “money circulating in the community” without telling product where the stall sits.

A weekly hygiene habit

Once a week, sample ten confirmed events against ledger rows. When timestamps drift by minutes or ids fail to join, stop using that event in funnel math until engineering repairs it. Desktopnest would rather delay a review than bless a broken verb.
